Infection Prevention Nurse

Reports to: Director of Nursing


Job Summary:
Leads the facility’s Infection Prevention and Nursing Education programs to promote patient and staff safety. Oversees infection control surveillance and compliance, educates staff on infection prevention best practices, manages employee health screenings, and supports nursing education, training, and competency tracking. Also works as an RN on the floor as needed.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate infection prevention policies and procedures
  • Monitor and report healthcare-associated infections and maintain regulatory compliance (CDC, CMS, OSHA)
  • Conduct staff education on infection control practices and coordinate nursing education programs
  • Track staff credentials, competencies, and mandatory trainings
  • Serve as an infection control resource to staff, patients, and families
  • Participate in quality improvement and safety initiatives
  • Support the nursing team with patient care as a Registered Nurse when necessary


Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program
  • Current Kansas RN license
  • BLS required; ACLS and PALS/TNCC within 2 years
  • Infection prevention or quality experience preferred
  • Strong communication, organizational, and teaching skills
  • Proficient with computers and electronic medical records
